Pre war Nazi Germany was awash with assimilated Jews, doctors, poets, professors all brands of secular intellectuals living among the gentile’s, as gentile’s. Leaving behind the outdated tradition of their forefathers they sought to become card bearing members of a modern society, and to be accepted among the populace.
And then the year 1939 arrived and the yellow star was upon the arm of every last Jew, bearded or clean shaven, doctor or beggar, circumcised or uncircumcised the Jewish nation was united to share in a collective fate.
The history of the Jewish nation has been riddled with tragedies, the Jews have always been singled out from among the nations of the world to bear the brunt of heinous persecution, the term “the Jewish problem” arose, in reference to our suffering, and many search for a solution.
Jews throughout the ages whether consciously or unconsciously have arrived at the conclusion that the easy way out, is to blend in, join the club, shed the old age traditional garb, walk like a gentile talk like a gentile, follow their way of life and living and accept all their idea’s and theory’s as our own, If the Jew will disappear so will “the Jewish problem”, history has proven how wrong they were.
Perhaps the answer lies here. As Jews we are commanded, not to learn from the customs of the gentile’s, not to mix, not to copy the Jew must stand out as a beacon of moral upstanding, the Jew must be viewed by all as epitomizing holiness, goodness and kindness, in this coarse and very physical world.
It is when and only when we live up to this standard, when we live and act with conviction as a Jew should, that the nations of the world will leave us be, not only that, but they will show us respect, and aid us in our G-dly mission.
Currently the holy land and with it the Jewish nation are faced with a crisis, the threat of radical Islamic terrorism is reality in the lives of Israeli Jews, and it gathers momentum with each passing day.
In dealing with this problem, the world has laid out it’s solution, ceasefire, give land, withdraw, reward your enemies, ignore their stated constitutional mandate’s that call for the destruction of the state of Israel, smile and wave and they will love you back, time and time again we have lapped up these suggestions, in an effort to finally be loved and accepted by all, to sit around a table at the UN as equal’s and as brothers in arms.
But there is also a Jewish answer, if your enemy approaches to kill you, you are obligated to throw the first punch, terminate the threat before it terminates you, preservation of life is top on the agenda, and giving a finger to a terrorist will not result in him returning the favor.
Perhaps the conviction and resolve that is shown by Islamic fundamentalists is what has earned global sympathy to their cause despite its barbaric nature, how many times have we heard people cry “if they are willing to blow themselves up, they must really be suffering”.
The time has come to call upon our reserves of traditional Jewish stubbornness, in order to defeat this threat it is imperative that our own resolve is more passionate, our desire for peace, our love of life must outweigh their perverted enthusiasm, we must carry the torch of Jewish law high above our heads with dignity and pride, respect for the Jew will be forthcoming, then and only then will we achieve “the Jewish solution”.
